What's Happening
To our valued members...
Thank you for your ongoing support of Made in Nevada, Inc. Originally established in 1985, it remains the oldest and largest locally-made product marketing cooperative in Nevada. The mission of Made in Nevada is to protect, promote and grow industry by increasing the awareness value of Nevada-made products.
Last year, Made in Nevada, Inc. was recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c) 6 organization and, in accordance with tax laws has filed a Form 990 for the past two years. Your board of directors formally established the organization to protect the interests of Made in Nevada and its member companies.
The Made in Nevada brand is 100 percent owned and funded by its cooperating companies. The primary purpose of the marketing cooperative is to collectively advertise, promote and develop markets for Nevada-made products, foods and art. These activities have been funded through tiered membership dues at $50, $150 and $500 levels.
Beginning in 2012 to comply with IRS guidelines, Made in Nevada's tiered membership levels will be replaced with a single annual "assessment" approved by the board of directors each year. The assessment for 2012 will be $100.
Made in Nevada accomplished a great deal in 2011:
- Increased the number of new companies in the cooperative by 45;
- Updated the existing Made in Nevada website for IRS compliance and began the development of a new website;
- Received approximately 150,000+ visits to the website and hundreds of e-mail inquiries;
- Hosted several new Nevada Marketplace events including: NCET Expo, Member sponsored events, Nevada Small Farm Conference and NV Small Farm events, in addition to the 2011 Nevada Marketplace in Carson City.
To achieve our goals, we have some very important work to do 2012:
- Complete the board of directors by filling two positions;
- Develop the content and design for the website and e-zine;
- Contract, create and launch the cooperative's annual magazine;
- Plan for the 2013 Nevada Marketplace in Carson City, and the 2014 Nevada Sesquicentennial Celebration.

From all of us at Made in Nevada, we send you our warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

IRS Grants Made in Nevada Tax-Exempt Status
In the wake of the State of Nevada's budget woes and program cuts in 2009, transitioning the state-run Made in Nevada into a nonprofit entity was the membership's simple solution to continue the highly successful marketing program. One year later, the organization received the 501(c)6 designation from the Internal Revenue Service.
This IRS designation is important to Made in Nevada members, business owners and donors - as it ensures transparency when it comes to things such as spending practices, financial controls, by-laws and articles of incorporation. Not all nonprofit organizations are run well, and the IRS revoked the status of 800 Nevada tax-exempt organizations this summer.
Additionally, Made in Nevada allocates nearly 100 percent of its revenues to programs, works to build meaningful relationships with member companies and communities, and operates with dedicated staff of volunteers. The board of directors and members of Made in Nevada are committed to the transitioning of a 20-year-old marketing initiative into a nonprofit organization that its stakeholders can have confidence in its management.

Made in Nevada Names Board of Directors
Made in Nevada announced its board of directors for 2009-10. This action is in response to the growing Made in Nevada membership's wish for more involvement in the future direction of the organization. The first official actions of the new board of directors will be election of officers and developing By-laws to structure the organization. They will also be determining the marketing focus for the balance of the year. Click here for the full press release.
It's Official: Made in Nevada becomes Made in Nevada, Inc.
The 20-year-old state marketing cooperative program, Made in Nevada, becomes Made in Nevada, Inc. in July 2009. The Nevada Commission on Economic Development (NCED) is assisting in the transition from state program to nonprofit. "We are committed to a seamless transition," says Kimberly Elliott, NCED's marketing director, adding, "The members should not notice a difference in their membership benefits." The change in administration is a result of budget and staffing cuts within NCED.
